OutsideOne tank, two jobs

The Diamond Combo is our whole-house filter and softener: a single 10 x 54 tank in a black jacket, with a 16 x 40 black brine tank beside it. That one tank holds both a carbon filter and a water softener, and the system carries a lifetime warranty.

Step 2 of 6

Look insideTwo layers of media

Inside are two layers of media resting on gravel underbedding. Carbon sits on top, so it meets the water first. The softening resin fills the larger layer below it.

Carbon0.5 cu ft of standard carbon

The top layer is carbon. Because it sits on top, it meets the water first and reduces chlorine, taste and odor.

Step 4 of 6

Softening resin1.0 cu ft of 8% resin

Below the carbon is the softening resin. It softens hard water by exchanging the hardness minerals as water passes through.

Control valveWS1 5-button downflow-brining valve

The control valve sits on top of the tank. It regenerates the resin with brine drawn from the salt tank, so the resin can keep softening.

Salt tank16 x 40 black brine tank

This is where you add salt. The valve draws brine from here, and a brine well with a safety float stops the tank from overfilling.
